Living the Dream

I always get told I'm living the dream, and well I guess you can say I am, I'm living my dream.

However most people use this cliched phrase when referring to the fact that I am a full time artist working from home, alongside my two boys (4yrs and almost 2yrs).  While you conjour up all those heartwarming images of me blissfully working away in my studio while my doting boys play happily at my feet, add a big whack of reality to that and you might just have the real picture!  Think sporadic and broken working hours, lots of mini people fighting, whinging and trashing your house, with the odd complete toddler hissy fit tantrum and you've pretty much got a good picture of the reality.

What the younger me thought parenting/work life balance would look like, in my sporty little tikes ride!

And although that paints a somewhat scary picture, I wouldn't have it another way.  Yes most days I don't get through most of my ambitious to do list, but I do get there in the end!  Its true I really do have the best of both worlds; doing what I love and pursuing my ambitions while also getting to be a mum, there for all the milestones,  big ones and everyday ones.

Its busy and chaotic, and every day is different, but I wouldn't have it another way.

Stone Walls

IMG_7252.jpg
Introducing our latest collection Stone Walls, celebrating the rough and rugged stone walls scattered across the Irish landscape.

This collection is inspired by those steely blues, greys and natural stone tones found among the stone walls of Ireland.  Their sturdy and deep routed nature balanced as they meander throughout the landscape.

As they scatter through the countryside creating a patchwork effect on the landscape, this collection highlights and celebrates the wide variety of colour, texture and tone found within each stone; each one unique yet working together!  And true to that sentiment each one of our pieces is uniquely a one off yet encompassing the look and feel of the collection.

The Stone Walls collection is available at our stockists (see stockists page for more details) or directly from myself, just click on the contact page and send me email.

Hello There, It's Me!

Hello there everyone, thanks for stopping by!  I thought I better rock up and introduce myself, I am the Jane in Jane Mathers Art, a part time art lecturer and full-time artist, creative and mum.

I spend most days doing the ultimate juggling act, working from my studio at home based in the lovely Northern Ireland countryside and taking care of my two, crazy, tantrum throwing, fiercely determined, but fun loving, hilarious boys.  Every day is unpredictable (isn't it always with kids) and different but that's just the way I like it!

After completing my Textile degree in England and my Masters in Belfast I began to teach, which I love.  I have lectured in the Further Education College area for nearly 10 years now! (Wow that's scary right there) and I still do part-time, as well as running workshops.  However now the majority of my time is spent on my own practice and I am loving every minute of it.  I create both fine art and textile artwork based on the landscape that surrounds me, and I am inspired by everything from the rural to the urban.

When I'm not creating and living the mum life, I can be found in the nearest coffee shop feeding my addictions: coffee, fashion and interiors.

Thanks for stopping by you lovely lot and if you like what you see follow me on instagram using the link on my site - I'm a lover of insta!
